Defying Gravity.

Drabble Challenge 2: Defying Gravity

I ran through the woods as if there was no tomorrow. My eyes felt like they were tearing, my vision blurring as I kept my eyes open against the unbeatable sunlight.

Faster.

my mind screamed, shouted at each step I took. I kept on disappearing from view, slowly hiding away from my reality that crept closer and closer at each step I was making.

I stopped dead in my tracks, my breath catching in my throat.

He stood, the smirk in his face never looking so disgustingly beautiful.

“I caught you,” his voice whispered at my defeated eyes.

Fire

Drabble Challenge 1: Fire

I was burning. My skin felt as if it was on fire, deeply red against my smooth skin. The windows were tinted black, the music playing loudly against my ears.

The distance between us felt as if it was rapidly decreasing in proximity. My eyes darted from left to right, panic crawling into my veins.

We drove, the road seeming to never end. His eyes stared at mine and I felt the burn once again. My breaths grew labored as his stare focused, his eyes shooting painful sparks to my body.

I was on fire. And I never wanted out.

Stuck

Believe it or not, but one word can give you inspiration. I went on the internet last night and found drabble challenges...and guess what I did? wrote an 150 word rant of something what reminded of the word 'stuck'.
Stuck
Someone had once told me that family was everything. Until a couple of years ago, I would of rolled my eyes and agreed halfheartedly.
However, the phrase these days continued to echo in my head like a broken record, carving its way into my memory, creating a permanent scar.
It would have been simple if I had forgotten it, simply choosing to avoid as much as possible from my mind. But as they all say, it was easier said than done.
I have tried it many times, distracted myself with useless chores, but it never helped. Somehow, the scene had found its way back into my inviting mind.
I could never forget.
The pitiful realization finally sank in my head a couple of months ago when my mother visited me. After countless of suggestions, such as seeing the shrink, attending group therapy, or going out, she had given up.
Not that I blamed her. Not at all. I, too, have given up on me.
Needless to say, I was a hopeless case.

Persuasive Speech- To the graduating class of 2011

A/N: Hey guys, so I just wanted to post this persuasive speech I had to write for my Writer's Craft class. I think speeches are a pain in the ass to write...you do not want to know how long I've worked on it, and it isn't even how I expected it to be...

To the graduating class of 2011,

School is out. You are literally running home because you wrote on his wall and you’re waiting for a response, ASAP. You have two assignments due tomorrow, one of which you didn’t bother starting, but you don’t care. The only thing on your mind is his reply and whether or not he logged on at 2:00AM yesterday to see your wall post.

How many of us face with the following situation? How many of us suffer from this distraction get our homework completed on time?

We’re graduating this year. Marks matter, so social life can take a ride in the backseat for the next couple of months. We’re trying to make something out of ourselves, get accepted into good universities, win scholarships, attend open houses, etc.

The problem with this networking addiction is that no matter how hard we try, it cannot go away.  The desire to get back on track is gone, erased with the distraction of social networking. What we need is to focus, collect our thought and set into action. This doesn’t mean turning off our laptops, or plugging the internet wire off. That’s ridiculous, and it doesn’t work. What this means is to simply cut an hour or two from Facebook or MSN or whatever else we use as a form of communication. What this means is doing our homework first and then enjoying chatting with our friends without feeling guilty about it.

Did you know that today’s social networking has made us illiterate, less intelligent? Talk about teachers being disappointed with our English skills; we can’t even spell the word ‘you’ anymore. This year isn’t about who can post the most on their ‘wall’ or who can come up with the shortest words ever created. It’s about educating ourselves; discovering our identities; exploring what we’re really capable of.

Recently, talking, and yes, I mean face to face interaction, has become a dying language, an important element that is our duty to bring back and work on. Social networking has damaged and destroyed our self-confidence and our freedom of expression. We’ve become so dependent on it that we’ve lost all sense of control and balance. When was the last time we’ve talked back without caring? When was the last time we’ve expressed ourselves in front of everyone without feeling letting it feel like performing in front of a crowd of a thousand?

It’s in our hands to change adults’ view of us.  We can’t accomplish that if all we do is sit and write on each other’s’ walls’ and ‘like’ each other’s pictures. Real life doesn’t have walls and like buttons. We won’t be commenting on our employers’ ‘wall’ and ‘liking’ their videos. Instead, we will be talking to them, expressing ourselves with our mouths, moving our hands, sharing knowledge, not through our fingers but through our voices. Don’t let social networking get in your way to accomplish your dreams and goals. Don’t get sucked into the wrong hole with no means of escape.

Let’s bring home those shinning A's and university acceptances, washing our parents’ faces with nothing but pride. Let’s stop being fooled to believe how great social networking is and the wonders that it brings. Let’s start to communicate language through talking and speaking, and bring back that dying art that was once lost.
It’s our responsibility to show everyone that we are serious and ready for everything that will be thrown at us; because we are smart, intelligent, young individuals. We are the future generation of this country, and we will succeed.

A/N: Was this convincing enough? I had so much to write but I was limited on the word length, again!

A Letter To A Concerned Father

Ok, so this is supposed to be a 'rant'. Of course I chose to do it about my culture because its rules are so sexist, I think the word sexist doesn't ever cover it. Anyways, yeah hopefully you enjoy this...It was supposed to be 400 words, but I'm 42 words over...Well, fuck that, I can't think of anywhere else to cut  down, don't blame for having so much to say.

I sincerely thank you for providing me with all the security in the world. I look at the word prison with a new light. I appreciate you looking out for my innocence by restricting me from seeing my friends. You’ve made it clear to me that all guys my age are a bunch of perverted sex offenders when you refuse to even bring up the word ‘boy’ in the house. Most of all, I thank you for teaching me manners. I shall never say anything because of how disrespectful it is to you. After all, I’m just a 17 year old, naïve little girl.

The way you discipline us is exceptional. You let us say absolutely nothing. I cannot even express the amount of appreciation I have towards you. You are leaving us with fewer worries by taking over everything possible. Seriously, thank you, not.

I can accept some of your traditions and rules. I truly can. I don’t plan on doing drugs or dancing around drunk. I know how Friday night is important to you, so I don’t go out on that day. But, seriously, don’t expect to understand you other irrational decisions.

I won’t stop expressing myself just because you say so. I won’t let anyone tell me that I need to shut up because you’re always right.

I will never understand the lack of trust you carry towards your own family, and the fact that I cannot date anyone because I might get molested and raped by every single guy in this city. Stop making me feel like I was born yesterday. Let me make my own mistakes for god’s sake!

The restrictions you place on me aren’t for my own good, they’re to please yourself and earn a good reputation. You don’t care about my feelings because you think I’m too young for everything.

How much longer will you dig your claws into me? I’m a feminist, but so what? Is it a sin to believe that women and men should be equal and that both should clean, cook and raise their children together? Why are all of these roles thrown at us? Why is the fear of a woman being is educated such a threat to you? Does it scare you to see her stand up for herself because she knows what is going on around her? Why, because you know that deep inside, the weakest one, is in fact, you?

Well, suck it up! Don’t let women feel like prisoners because of you’re an ignorant coward. Get over yourself and let me live my life. The way I want to, not the way you want to.

I didn't go overboard, right?

Legalizing Prostitution

This is my first writing piece for my Writer's Craft course. Unfortunately, this less than 250 word piece didn't turn out as good as I hoped it would...well anyways, hope you enjoy it :D

I believe that legalizing prostitution is the right decision to make, despite it being against my morals. I cannot judge individuals who turn towards prostitution because I don’t know their reasons for doing so. I can, however, say that living a life in fear, and suffering in silence should not be tolerated by any individual, even if the reason is prostitution.
By legalizing prostitution -and no, it isn’t the end of the world - we are able to provide a safer and cleaner environment for both women and men in that industry. Legalizing prostitution will reduce the amount of sexually transmitted diseases and ensure a violence-free environment for its workers.
Benefits of legalizing prostitution cannot be guaranteed with illegal prostitution. Take abuse as an example: a woman selling herself will be charged for prostitution if she reports being abused by a client to the police. Legalizing prostitution will solve this problem; women and men will not be afraid to report abuse cases, reducing street violence.
What’s in it for the government? Legalizing prostitution isn’t only beneficial for society because it is also a direct profit for the government. If prostitution is registered, the government can collect tax money from workers in this business, increasing overall government spending revenue.
Let’s face it – people in the prostitution business have been working in the field whether or not it is legal. Legalizing it would drastically decrease violence and diseases occurring in this industry; as it will also be beneficial for the government.
